Asthma is common among runners, but it is often misunderstood, minimized, or feared. I had the opportunity to join the Mindful Marathon Podcast with Coach Michelle Quirk to talk about what asthma really means for runners and how athletes can train safely, confidently, and successfully.
In this episode, we break down the physiology of asthma and exercise-induced bronchoconstriction, how to recognize symptoms runners often normalize, and what well-controlled asthma should actually look like in real life. I share practical guidance on inhaler use, training adjustments, identifying red flags, and why having an individualized asthma action plan is so important for anyone who runs.
We also talk about the emotional side of asthma. Fear, past flare-ups, and uncertainty can deeply affect how runners trust their bodies. I loved having the chance to speak about how understanding your asthma and having the right support can help you feel safer, more confident, and more empowered in your training.

This is a reassuring and encouraging conversation for runners with asthma, as well as the coaches, clinicians, and loved ones who support them.
